New Spellings
Each week children will have an individual list of five words to learn. Children need to be secure in using these words as well as spelling them correctly. Therefore, for homework the children will be asked to use them in two activities, similar to those they complete during guided reading lessons. Every child has a selection of activities in their home learning book to choose from and using a variety of these will aid the learning of their words. Alongside these activities, children will need to write a sentence for each of their spelling words, this encourages them to use their words in their writing and helps increase their vocabulary too.
Here is the statutory word list that children will choose their spellings from. It is expected that children will be able to spell and use these words by the end of year 6.
